ITEMS IN THE NEWS

MAY NEWSLETTER - I understand that some members have experienced problems with the receipt of the latest newsletter, or perhaps I should say non-receipt. Will any member who has not received the current newsletter please let me know as the Society's officers really need to get to the bottom of what is causing the problem - Elsie Reed - Hon Secretary. You can contact Elsie by e-mail through the contacts page and select Contact Hon. Secretary.

Sheila Lawson and Elsie Reed would like to start holding local meetings in the Workington/Whitehaven area again. If any member is interested in taking part would they contact either Sheila or Elsie, this can be done via the contact page. If it would suit members better we are prepared to organise afternoon meetings. Before we go ahead we need to know the level of interest there is in holding these local meetings

CUMBRIA FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY

The Cumbria Family History Society was founded to help members carry out their family history researches and our area of interest is the modern county of Cumbria, which is the old counties of Cumberland and Westmorland and a part of Northern Lancashire and North Yorkshire.

The society produces a quarterly Newsletter, which is sent by post to all members in February, May, August, November. Contributions to the Newsletter are always welcome.

The Publishing programme includes many items, in particular the 1851 census.

Quarterly meetings are held in a number of towns around the County, in Manchester and in London. See the activies page or the Notice Board for current details.

The Society is a member of the Federation of Family History Societies, the North West of Family History Societies and a founder member of the Friends of Cumbria Archives.

The Society is also a Registered Charity in the United Kingdom, No 518393. To join the Society, just return the Membership form with your subscription fee, annual subscriptions run from January to December each year.
